Big conference in Ireland: The 7th European Congress of Immunology (ECI) took place in Dublin from September 1st-4th 2024. So many scientist from all over the world, so many great talks and fruitful discussions. While Johanna had a talk in one of the workshops, Konstantinos and Aaron presented their research topics in the poster session. This was a great opportunity again to represent the mast cell research on such a big conference. Well done!

Welcome to the team, Mahsa! We are happy to introduce our new PhD student Mahsa Abedi who started to work in our group in August. Starting from October then, she will be joining the DFG Research Training Group (RTG) 2408. We wish you a wonderful start and a lot of success!

We received the tragic news of the loss of our beloved colleague and friend Guido Höbbel with deep sorrow. Guido worked at the Institute of Molecular and Clinical Immunology for many years and he was involved in numerous projects. He was loved by so many people and will always have a place in our heart. Our thoughts are now with his family and his friends.

We say hi from the beautiful city of Toulouse! At the 11th European Mast Cell and Basophil Network (EMBRN) Meeting, we came together with our 'family' of the mast cell research. We had lively disussions at the poster sessions and very fruitful conversations with cooperation partners. Additionally, we were able to present our research with a poster (Konstantinos), two talks (Johanna and Aaron) and the closing lecture (Prof. Anne Dudeck). And Aaron even took home the Best Presentation Award. What a successful meeting!

This time in Magdeburg: The 3rd Day of Intravital Microscopy took place from 23.-24.10.2023. With lectures and scientific talks addressing intravital microscopy techniques, this meeting was a great opportunity for professional exchange and interaction. Awesome to see and meet so many intravital specialists!

It was with great sorrow that we learned of the painful loss of our beloved friend and colleague Mohsen who died far too early. In 2019, Mohsen finished his master thesis in our lab. He was shortly before completion of his excellent dissertation in the lab of Prof. Dr. med. Rüdiger Braun-Dullaeus at the department of cardiology and angiology at the Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg. We will keep him in our hearts. Our thoughts are now with his family, his partner and his friends.

In September, the joint conference of the Société Française d’Immunologie (SFI) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Immunologie (DGfI) took place in Strasbourg. Prof. Anne Dudeck was one of the invited speakers and had the great opportunity to present our research findings in this great atmosphere.

Science for everyone: The Long Night of Science (Lange Nacht der Wissenschaften) is a wonderful event where various research institutes in Magdeburg open their doors for one night to present their daily work to the public. Our Institute of Molecular and Clinical Immunology participated as well. There war great interest in the different projects!

Conference of Innate Immunology (NCII) in Tübingen. With severals posters and a talk we presented our latest findings in the study about the role mast cells in inflammation. We met some collegues and had a great time with some old friends. In the evening, we had the chance to explore the beautiful city of Tübingen.

The RTG2408 has successfully been extended for another 5-year funding period by the DFG! This is amazing news and we are happy to continue with our great research and the numerous cooperations within the Research Training Group 2408. Congratulations everyone for the great effort put into this project!

Hannover, we are coming! From 07. to 10.09. Martin, Johanna and Konstantinos went to the Joint Meeting of the DGfI and ÖGfI in Hannover. And all three had the chance to present their results in great talks. Congratulations!

Time to Network! After the long streak of online meetings, it was great to meet other scientist again in real life! At the EMBRN Meeting in Utrecht, The Netherlands, Johanna, James, Aaron and Konstantinos experienced a very welcome athmosphere and came in touch with many international scientist. A great conference!

We have new group members: James Patrick Koch and Aaron Hoffmann started as PhD students in the work group Immunoregulation. We are really looking forward to their research projects and the collaboration in our group and the institute. Aaron is a member of the DFG Research Training Group (RTG) 2408 with the topic "Maladaptive processes across physiological barriers in chronic diseases". James will work on a project funded by the DFG that focus on the interaction of mast cells and macrophages. Welcome, James and Aaron!

There is a new publication of our group! In January, we published the articel "Directional mast cell degranulation of tumor necrosis factor into blood vessels primes neutrophil extravasation" in Immunity. It was a ton of work, but now it's done. Congrationlations to all who participated to this amazing project!
